Hardware for interviewing
  • Microphone – ATR2100
  • Shock mount and microphone filter – CISNO
  • Adjustable microphone suspension arm stand – NEEWER
  • Portable recorder – Zoom H6 – I invested into this recorder, but please be aware there are less expensive versions available from the same company. If you will do all your interviewees via computer, you do NOT need a portable recorder.
Software for interviewing online
  • Skype
  • I also use Ecamm call recorder for Mac to record my conversation via Skype, but the latest version should allow you to record inside the Skype.
  • Zoom
  • There are a number of other options available, but Skype and Zoom are my favorite. Most people either have access to these or know how to use them.  If that is not the case you can utilize your interviewee’s telephone number to connect.
Software for editing
  • GarageBand on Mac – this is where I started
  • Audacity on PC
  • Hindenburg Journalist Pro – radio editing software – a friend recommended this tool. Even though it’s not free I love the variety of features and easy ways of editing the files. The company offers a free trial.
Software for advanced editing
  • Auphonic – one of my favorite tools for polishing the final version of the file, helps to equalize the volume especially for the interviews where there are two different volume inputs.
  • Headliner app – a great way to create audiograms, short videos with clips from each episode. I post these videos on social media to promote the episodes.
  • Otter.ai – this AI based software allows you to create transcripts from your episodes. The transcripts are good but not 100% accurate. If the accuracy is very important to you, you might want to invest into a different way of transcribing. Check out some of my latest episodes to see an example.
  • Canva – this software is my go-to for anything related to image editing, and of course if you are looking for good images in general, Unsplash is a good first stop.
Hosting platforms
  • Libsyn – one of the most established podcast hosting platform
  • There are many other ones available for you to select from
